GUWAHATI: Aiming to uncover and nurture promising athletic talent at the grassroots level, the ongoing KIRTI Sports Talent Assessment Program at the Sports Center of India (SAI) in Guwahati conducted its athletics assessment on March 30. About 300 school students from various schools across Guwahati enthusiastically participated in the selection evaluation.

Under the supervision of SAI trainers and experts, students underwent a comprehensive battery of ten physical fitness tests carefully designed to assess their physical attributes. Following these evaluations, the young athletes engaged in specific tests for events that include disciplines such as the 100-meter sprint, 600-meter run, shot put, high jump, long jump, and shot put.

The KIRTI initiative, which has already witnessed the participation of around 500 school students in disciplines including boxing, kho, archery and athletics, aims to identify and nurture hidden sporting talents across diverse disciplines.

Tomorrow, the program is set to expand its scope with football evaluations scheduled to run in a similar fashion. Looking ahead, KIRTI’s assessment drive is poised to expand to all SAI centers across Assam, fostering a decentralized approach to talent identification and development.
