Moscow: Russia said on Sunday that its forces had fully captured Bogdanivka, a front-line village less than three kilometers (two miles) northeast of the Ukrainian-held town of Khasib Yar.
Moscow has made several front-line gains in recent months, pushing back its advantage as Kiev struggles with a shortage of vital ammunition from its Western allies.
“Units of the southern group of soldiers completely liberated the settlement of Bogdanivka,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a daily briefing.
Bogdanivka lies between Khasib Yar and Khamut, a Ukrainian city that Moscow forces claimed to have fully captured in May 2023 after one of the bloodiest battles of Moscow’s two-year offensive.
Kiev forces said earlier this month that the battlefield situation around Khasib Yar was “difficult and tense” and that Russia was releasing constant fire.
Hasib Yar, which had a population of about 13,000 before the conflict, was largely destroyed in the fighting and most of its residents fled.
