The latest elderly comedian to claim that you can’t say anything now because of a wake – thought not in those exact words – is Jerry Seinfeldco-writer and star of Seinfeldin which he played an unlikable comedian.
That must have been quite a stretch.
he explained to new Yorker that there is no comedy on television because of the extreme left. Yes, we know. We heard it too.
@newyorker On a new episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour, Jerry Seinfeld talks with David Remnick about his new film about the history of Pop-Tarts, the changing norms of comedy, and turning 70. Discussion of the film Covered it, picked up one storyline that he thought wouldn’t make it past the lefties killing comedy.
Jerry Seinfeld says he wouldn’t be able to do many ‘SEINFELD’ jokes in today’s world.
“[One would be] Kramer decides to open a business for homeless people to pull rickshaws because, as he says, ‘they’re out anyway’. Do you think I can get this episode on the air… pic.twitter.com/noucC5NUMJ

People weren’t convinced that his comedy was particularly edgy to begin with, and they didn’t buy his tough act.

For the past 20 years Seinfeld has been making this joke about Chinese people and chopsticks that is so racist and cringeworthy it makes the Kelvin Krusty look elegant but has left you fossilized. https://t.co/hdkY2fSk02

Listening to Jerry Seinfeld, the least annoying comic in the history of comedy, complain about wakes and PC-limiting comedy is prime man-baby material

It’s a bit much for Seinfeld to whine about “you can’t do that on TV these days” for “Awakening” when in the 90s his own stand-up material was deemed not good enough and dropped from that sitcom. The one he starred in. and wrote and produced and named after him.

“You couldn’t do Seinfeld today” yes you definitely could. Seinfeld is not that nervous. It remains popular to this day. Jerry’s entire comedy career is based on banal and harmless observations intended for broad audiences. He didn’t even swear. What the hell is he talking about https://t.co/ka6HbZAXlE

Jerry Seinfeld Says You Can’t Write Sitcoms Anymore Because of Awakening Despite the fact that his longtime writing partner just ended a 24-year run on one of the all-time favorite sitcoms, it’s arguably the funniest thing he’s done in decades — funnier even than a bee movie, maybe

I’m sorry, but if you still take Jerry the fuck Seinfeld seriously when it comes to the state of comedy in 2024, I have a timeshare to sell you https://t.co/HTzaHw3dl6

Jerry Seinfeld on The New Yorker Radio Hour blames the “extreme left” and “PC bullshit” for why there aren’t more sitcoms. Not streamers or any systemic reasons that we *just* saw in play with the WGA strike. Only “the wikes won’t let us do comedy anymore”. Total brain rot.

There are several points that need to be unpacked:
1) There always have been and always will be comedy TV shows
2) Jerry Seinfeld hasn’t done anything worthwhile in 25 years, he’s no Larry David
3) He may have a point about “death by committee” but hey, there’s capitalism for you https://t.co/lqnKdnkXEt

Seinfeld is right, revival killed bold, boundary-pushing TV comedy ideas like Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. You just can’t get big, game-changing ideas like that anymore, because of ULEZ and wake up.

Jerry Seinfeld’s best joke is how he’s convinced Seinfeld was nervous. https://t.co/oBVls8YjIB

If these quotes are any indication, Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t actually watch any television. https://t.co/K6akDbB6GH

In response to what Seinfeld obviously thought was a rhetorical question about being able to get an episode about homeless exploitation on the air these days, co-writer and star of It’s always sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhaney There was a devastating comeback of one word.

His succinct comment came across well.
Jerry Seinfeld: “You can’t be any funnier for waking up”
Rob McElhaney: “We’ve ruined cricket’s life since 2005” https://t.co/7OxAGZHwO5

Exactly, this whole argument falls to shit when there is always a sun. Also, Puck Seinfeld’s pretentious corporate retreat comedy. https://t.co/VknZIsBCl1 pic.twitter.com/83rlUaIviQ

So here’s to Rob McElhaney roasting Jerry Seinfeld for being a crap comedian who wants to whine about repeal culture instead of being funny for the first time in 25 years https://t.co/sf7BwEOynM
