A deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and late Saturday night it became a severe cyclonic storm Ramal. Cyclone Ramal is expected to hit between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Kheupada in Bangladesh around midnight on Sunday. This information was provided by the meteorological department on Saturday. This is the first cyclone of the pre-monsoon season in the Bay of Bengal. In this context, the meteorological department says that this cyclone can hit at a speed of 110-120 kilometers per hour. It was also said that the cyclonic storm can reach a speed of up to 135 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of very heavy rains in the coastal districts of West Bengal and North Odisha on May 26 and 27. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some parts of Northeast India on May 27 and May 28. As the storm makes landfall, there is a possibility of waves up to 1.5 meters high in the sea, which may submerge low-lying areas on the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh.
Fishermen warned not to go to the beach
The meteorological department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal till the morning of May 27. It has been warned that winds of 100 to 110 kilometers per hour may occur in South 24 Parganas on May 26 and May 27. Apart from this, a warning has also been issued in North 24 Parganas against winds blowing at a speed of 110 kmph. The department has issued an orange alert for the districts of Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia and East Madinpur. Winds at a speed of 100 kmph are possible in these districts with torrential rain at some places in the next two days. .
Heavy rain is also expected in these countries
According to the meteorological department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and Kanderpara in north Odisha on May 26 and May 27. Apart from this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Mayurbhange on May 27. Light rain at most places with heavy rain at a few places is expected over Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur on May 26. Rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on May 27 and 28. Rain is also possible at some places in Bihar. The Tripura government has issued an alert in all eight districts after warning of heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge in the next 48 hours. Additional Revenue Secretary Tamal Majumdar said heavy rains and strong winds are expected to continue in the country till May 28 due to the impact of the cyclone.
