Calcutta: To further improve the existing passenger facilities and make the railway stations more passenger friendly, North East Frontier Railway has installed several lifts and escalators at various stations under its jurisdiction based on mass flow. There are even plans by the North East Frontier Railway to upgrade the available infrastructure of some selected railway stations to a higher standard.
Such transitions are made to facilitate the easy movement of passengers, especially the elderly and disabled and sick, from one platform to another in the station. The new lifts and escalators will also play an important role in providing and upgrading many other passenger amenities.

Currently 45 lifts and 35 escalators are in operation in major stations of five divisions under North East Frontier Railway. Four lifts including 02 lifts at Barsoi station and 02 lifts at Jalpaiguri Road railway station have been commissioned during the last financial year 2023-24. Accordingly, a total of four escalators including two escalators each at Agartala and Kamakhya railway stations have been commissioned. Similarly, installation of 26 escalators sanctioned at 13 stations under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Plan’ is also in various stages.

Sabyasachi Dey, Chief Public Relations Officer, North East Frontier Railway, said that in view of the increasing number of passengers, North East Frontier Railway is putting emphasis on installing more lifts and escalators at key stations as well as facilitating cross navigation between the railway. facilities for safe and convenient passenger entry and exit These additional facilities will provide easy access to the passengers, help provide a pleasant train journey experience for the passengers and make the rail services easier to use.
