The party had given me the ticket, but I have returned it. The party is unable to give me money. I put all my strength into campaigning. Tried to get help from people, knocked on every door, but had no success. I had appealed to the leaders for money. The answer I got was that I should collect resources for myself. It is not possible to campaign without money. So I returned the ticket.

The Congress candidate from the Puri seat in Odisha, Sucharita Mohanty, posted the party’s general secretary KC Venugopal on May 3 around 10.15 pm, writing that he will not be able to contest the elections. After this the party gave the ticket to Jai Narayan Patnaik instead. Voting is on 25 May in Puri. In such a situation, the new candidate will only have 20 days to campaign.

BJP gave ticket to Sambit Patra for the second consecutive time from this seat.
