ISLAMABAD – The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday strongly rejected the first information report (FIR) registered by Islamabad police about the alleged assassination attempt on party spokesperson Raoof Hasan. The party demanded the formation of a judicial commission empowered to bring the criminals to justice.

Addressing a press conference along with other party leaders, PTI General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub alleged that the Islamabad police had tampered with the FIR, as a charge of terrorism had been omitted from it. He said that the statement given by PTI Information Secretary Raoof clearly mentioned the incidents that took place but the police did not mention terrorism charges in it.

“We categorically reject and condemn the false FIR lodged by the Islamabad Police. It is an attempt to damage the integrity of the case,” he added.

Omar asked that they wanted to know who pressured the Islamabad police to register that FIR, which did not even mention the word terrorism despite the fact that it was clearly an act of terrorism.

He demanded the formation of a judicial commission immediately to task the real criminals. The opposition leader noted that the unknown assailants used a sharp object to attack Raoof causing deep wounds on his face.

He blasted Islamabad police for its failure to round up the attackers despite 24 hours.

Speaking on the occasion, Raoof said that it was a well-planned assassination attempt on him, as the attackers were not transgender people but well-trained assassins.

He said the attackers abused and threatened him and kept saying, “We’re after you”. He said the transgender community had also distanced themselves from the event.

Raoof claimed that it was a very organized plan, as he had previously encountered the attackers last Monday as well.
