Dawood Bandu Khan was accused of sexual harassment by the mother of his then 17-year-old girlfriend. But when the girl grew up, Dawood Bandu Khan married her.
But then 70-year-old Dawood Bandu Khan made a mistake. He went to Agra without informing the police and court officials about his marriage and reconciliation with his mother-in-law. Khan has four children. Dawood Khan, who has been on the run for the past 40 years in a kidnapping and rape case, has now been arrested by the Mumbai Police in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. After Dawood Khan did not appear before the court in January 2020, the court declared him a fugitive. Now the accused’s wife and mother-in-law are also not in this world. With no one to take the complaint back, he is now forced to go to jail for sexual harassment.
His mother-in-law has registered a case of kidnapping and rape, the police said. In 1984, Dawood Khan, his girlfriend (she was 17 at the time, became his wife). At that time they were living in VP Road area of ​​Girgaon, Mumbai. Dawood Bandu Khan was still 30 years old and they both fell in love with each other. The girl’s mother was against their relationship. Also lodged a complaint with DB Marg police. Dawood Khan was later arrested on charges of kidnapping and rape. He was granted bail, later got out of jail and eventually married the girl after she passed legal age, an official said.
According to a report by India Express, they moved to Agra without telling anyone after the birth of their first child. But before going to Agra, the case would have ended if both of them (Khan, his girlfriend) had told the police and the court that the matter had been resolved and that they had married each other, said a police officer. As the case has not been closed, the court has been issuing orders to appear before the court for several years. Khan fails to appear in court. After he repeatedly failed to respond to court orders, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against Khan.
Dawood Khan’s name came to the fore when the Mumbai Police launched a special drive to track down and arrest absconders to maintain law and order in the city ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The DB Marg police said that Khan changed his address two decades ago without informing anyone and they have no idea about it. Apart from this, the victim’s mother is also dead, so there is no one to tell where Khan lives, the police said.
Constable Vinod Rane, under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Vijay Ghorpade, said Dawood’s location was known due to the search for informers in the area. We have his old address but nobody knows where he is. So we started looking for older people. On questioning them, Dawood Khan said that we know of a cook who was called to Agra about 10 years ago to cook food for his son’s wedding.
So Dawood Khan was brought to Mumbai and arrested on Tuesday. During the trial, Dawood Khan said he believed the case was closed after he married the victim. Dawood also said his wife had died in 2011, police said. Currently, the court has sent him to judicial custody. He is in prison. Dawood Khan made a big mistake by not informing the court about his marriage 40 years ago, an official said. That worries them now in their old age.
