NEW DELHI: 600 lawyers of the country, including senior lawyer Harish Salve, have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud (600 lawyers write to CJI) and expressed concern about raising questions to the judiciary (Supreme Court ).

At such a time, more than 600 lawyers of the country, including senior lawyers of Harish Salve, Pinky Anand, have written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court DY Chandrachud, which has created great curiosity. In this letter, he expressed concern that some groups are undermining the judiciary in the country.

In their letter, the lawyer mentioned that the job of this particular group is to exert pressure to influence the court’s decisions, especially in cases involving politicians or allegations of corruption. The letter said that their activities have become a threat to the country’s democratic system and faith in the judicial process.
Apart from senior advocate Harish Salve, those who have written to the CJI include Manan Kumar Mishra, Adish Aggarwal, Chetan Mittal, Pinky Anand, Hitesh Jain, Ujwala Pawar, Uday Holla, Swaroopama Chaturvedi.
What did the lawyer say in the letter?
This particular group seeks to influence the functioning of the judiciary in many ways, from presenting a false narrative about the so-called golden age of the judiciary to undermining the current functioning of the courts and public confidence in the courts.
This group praises court rulings if they are in their favor based on their political agenda and criticizes them otherwise. In fact this group believes in the ‘my way or the highway’ theory. In addition, the letter states that he also formulated the bench-setting theory.
Lawyers have claimed that it is strange that leaders are arguing in court on corruption charges. In this case, if the court’s decision is not to their liking, they start criticizing the court inside the court or through the media.
Some elements try to influence the judges in some selected cases or put pressure on the judges to give decisions in their favor in some selected cases. And this is done by spreading falsehoods on social media, the letter said.

Their attempts to influence the courts for personal or political reasons will not be tolerated under any circumstances. “We ask the Supreme Court to take strict and tough concrete steps to protect our courts from such attacks,” the lawyers said.
