Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s flagship initiative from Nutrition to Education under the visionary leadership of India’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani under the Poshan Abhiyan to foster child health and well-being was held on 29 February 2024 in partnership with Network18 Group. It marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards ensuring nutrition for all children with a special focus on harnessing the power of storytelling.

India has embarked on a transformative journey towards ensuring the health and well-being of its citizens, especially children, through the Poshan Abhiyan launched by our honorable Prime Minister in 2018. Led by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the grassroots campaign this has taken great strides to combat malnutrition, stunting and waste, aiming for a healthier and more prosperous India.

As the Poshan Abhiyan evolved into Poshan 2.0, a new chapter of nutrition opened up for studies. Themed “A New Indian Drive from Nutrition to Education”, the initiative symbolizes India’s commitment to holistic child health and nutrition, paving the way for a brighter future and reaching out to millions of schools across the country to build a brighter future for India.

From Nutrition to Studies The launch was followed by a special interaction with Smriti Zubin Irani. Reviewing government initiatives and integrated approaches to child health and nutrition, he showed India’s remarkable progress in reducing malnutrition and growing a healthy population. Highlighting the transformation of Anganwadis into Saksham Anganwadis over the last six years, the forum showcased the collaborative efforts of the government, UNICEF and other stakeholders to improve early childhood care and education. Discussions on fighting obesity and promoting healthy eating habits emphasized the importance of nutrition in children’s lives.

“As we work on the Nutrition for Education campaign, let’s remember that investing in the health of our children is an investment in the future of our nation. We are paving the way for a brighter and healthier India through a shared commitment to education, empowerment and nurturing the potential of every child. Let us embark on this transformative journey together. Let’s ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of a nutritious and prosperous tomorrow,” said India’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani, who shared her unwavering commitment to the initiative.

He also thanked the Bill Gates Foundation for helping India with a nutrition tracker during the pandemic. During the event Mr. Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation shares his vision and insights, launching the Nutrition Festival Book and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.

With great enthusiasm, Mr. Bill Gates praised Poshan India’s initiative for combining local practices to improve nutrition across diverse communities. He appreciated the Minister’s steps in increasing nutrition, expanding childcare and empowering women economically.

With India leading the way in innovations such as vaccines and supplements, Gates expressed optimism about continued progress in nutrition. He thanked health workers and highlighted the positive impact of these developments on women and children in India.
