The ECI has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to immediately submit a detailed report on the road conditions, weather and accessibility of the area, covering parts of south Kashmir and areas of Poonch and Rajouri in the Jammu region.

The official announcement stated that the polls will be held on May 25. Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Omar Abdullah (National Conference) and Mufti Mahaboba (PDP) urged the ECI last week not to postpone the polls.

The constituency was scheduled to go to polls in the third phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on May 7 to decide the fate of 21 candidates, including Mahaboba Mufti, who is facing a challenge from NC leader Mian Altaf. He will now go to the polls in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
