New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi told News18 Network in an exclusive interview that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should get a chance to serve the people of Odisha. If Odisha gives that chance, BJP can take the neighboring state of Bengal to the heights.
On not having an alliance with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha, Modi told Rahul Joshi, Editor-in-Chief of Network 18 Group, “BJP has worked separately there. BJD has given us issue-based support at the Centre, as have many other parties.”

He further said, “Odisha is losing its self-respect. Oriya language is in crisis. I think the people of Odisha will not tolerate this neglect for long. That state has so much wealth that today’s Odisha would be the richest state in India. But nothing happened. The common people of Odisha have aspirations. I believe we should have an opportunity to serve. We will take Odisha to great heights.”
21 Lok Sabha constituencies will go to polls for the 224 member state assembly in Odisha. Elections will be held in four phases on June 13, 20, 25 and 1. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won 112 seats in the 2014 assembly elections. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 23 seats and Congress won 9 seats.

On the other hand, BJD won 12 out of 21 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won eight seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) won only one seat.
