New license plates on Prince Edward Island recognize the brave contributions of the Island’s paramedics.
The new paramedic license plate, available in English and French, features a red maple leaf and Star of Life – a symbol commonly used to identify emergency medical service and the Canadian Paramedic Association PEI.
“A specialist license plate is a way to recognize and thank paramedics for dedicating their careers to helping Islanders in need,” said Ernie Hudson, minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
“We are so fortunate to have a highly skilled team of paramedics who provide emergency medical service across the province. This license plate gives paramedics the option to proudly display their chosen profession on their personal vehicle.”
A news release from the province says Monday that certified paramedics can apply for the specialist license plate by presenting a valid emergency medical technician license or identification card issued by the Prince Edward Island College of Paramedics.
The plates can only be used on personal passenger vehicles and not on emergency vehicles or vehicles reporting to a location.
“The island’s paramedics continue to demonstrate a commitment to service by playing a key role in our healthcare system every day,” said Mark McLane, the minister for Health and Wellbeing. “These license plates recognize the high quality of care that paramedics provide to all Islanders.”
“The PEI Paramedic Association is thrilled to have been able to work alongside the provincial government to develop these license plates,” said Ian Ross, executive director of the PEI Paramedic Association. “These unique plates will be a means of recognizing the contributions of our Island’s paramedics.”
The state says the cost of a paramedic license plate is $5. Regular fees will be charged for future renewals of registrations.
