Achi news desk-
Today I am narrating the story of the country’s second Lok Sabha election held in 1957. Today’s Ranchi parliamentary seat was known as the Ranchi North East Lok Sabha constituency. Abdul Ibrahim became the first MP here. But, towards the end of 1956, before the second elections, a Parsi man came here. The name was Minochar Rustam Masani alias Meenu Masani. He was a friend of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Has been Chancellor of Germany. He also worked with Tata. The books written by him were taught in schools. He had also been the Mayor of Bombay (now Mumbai). Masani was the first in the country to bring the proposal to add the Uniform Civil Code to the Constitution. Masani reached Ranchi and met political people here. In the second general election held in 1957, he contested the election on the Jharkhand Party ticket and won. However, after five years he went to Gujarat and contested elections from there. He died in Bombay. But, it gave Ranchi an identity in the country. In the elections held in 1952, 10 people from South Chhotanagpur region had made it to Parliament. But, in the second general election, 12 parliamentary constituencies were created. With the exception of Godda and Koderma, all the current parliamentary constituencies were formed at the same time. Ranchi and Khunti were merged into two seats, Ranchi North East and Ranchi West. Ranchi was in North East and Khunti was in Ranchi West. The country advanced strongly for five years under the leadership of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The Congress wave was going on. There were other parties in the fight, but it was not easy for them to fight against the Congress. The second largest party was CPI. But even then it was not easy to fight for the Congress in my area. I had a different culture, language and identity. Therefore, here only the local parties gave tough competition to the Congress Party. The Jharkhand Party had been formed. Jhapa got five seats out of 12. Santhalpargana Jharkhand Party got three seats, and Congress got only four seats. Chatra and Giridih became parliamentary constituencies for the first time, local parties won the elections. Chatra became parliamentary constituencies for the first time. Vijaya Raje won the election from Chhotanagpur Santhal Pargana Jharkhand Party (CNSPJP). Chaplendu Bhattacharya defeated the Congress. Giridih also became a parliamentary constituency for the first time. From here, Qazi A Mateen of CNSPJP defeated Nageshwar Prasad Sinha of Congress. Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency earlier came under Manbhum North, which has now become Dhanbad Lok Sabha. A large number of people from Bihar had come to settle here, and that is why the Congress got a victory here. Prabhat Chandra Bose was elected for the second time. In Hazaribagh, CNSPJP candidate Lalita Rajalakshmi defeated Badruzaman Khan of Congress. The most powerful performance was Jharkhand Party. It won five Lok Sabha seats, while a total of six members were elected. At that time two members were elected from the seat of Dumka. Here the two members of Jhapa were elected. Suresh Chandra Choudhary and Devi Soren went to Parliament in Dumka. In Lohardaga, Ignish Beck of Jhapa defeated Jatham Kharwar of Congress. From Ranchi West (Khunti) constituency, Jaipal Singh of Jhapa defeated Christ Paire Kerketta of Congress. In Singhbhum, Shambhu Charan won from Jhapa from independent Sidiya Hembram. From Ranchi East (Ranchi), Meenu Masani of Jhapa defeated Ibrahim Ansari of Congress, and Jhapa also gained good influence in Jamshedpur. But, MK Ghosh of Congress defeated Eric D’Costa of Jhapa. Gajendra Prasad Sinha of Congress was elected on Palamu seat. He won by defeating Ram Avtar Sharma of CNSPJP.
