Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month is on 5th April, Friday. Papamochani Ekadashi fast will be observed on this day. Sage Lomash had told King Mandhata about this fast. In this Ekadashi fast, Lord Lakshmi-Narayan is worshiped with rituals. On this day, consecration of Lord Krishna and chanting of Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya mantra is fruitful.
The rules of this fast start from Dashami Tithi night.
People observing this fast should eat satvik food on Dashami Tithi. After this one should meditate on Lord Vishnu with a pure mind. On the night of Dashami Tithi itself, one should sleep with a decision in mind that the next day one will worship Lord Vishnu with full devotion and observe fast Ekadashi. The next day on Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, the fast should be started by taking a decision.
The method of worshiping Lord Vishnu
First of all, after worshiping Lord Gauri-Ganesha, spread a yellow cloth on a wooden platform and place the idol of Lord Vishnu. Perform the entire puja by chanting the mantra Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya. Offer clothes to Lord Vishnu after washing him with pure water, milk curd, Panchamrit.
Offer Mauli, sandalwood, Akshat, Abir-Gulal, flowers, garland, holy thread and other worship materials. Offer yellow colored sweets and also recite Vishnu Sahasranama. At the end of the puja, perform aarti and distribute prasad.
Story and importance related to Ekadashi
It is believed that by observing Papmochani Ekadashi fast, the inauspicious effects of planets are removed. Problems also disappear now quickly. Sins committed intentionally or unintentionally are removed and wishes will be fulfilled.
Legend has it that once upon a time, due to breaking the penance of a sage named Medhavi, an Apsara named Manjughosha was cursed to become a vampire, but later, to get rid of Manjughosha’s repentance, the sage asked her to observe Papamochini Ekadashi fast in Krishna Paksha month of Chaitra Say the answer. By fasting on that Ekadashi, Manjughosha was freed from the demon’s body.
