Along with the Lok Sabha elections, there are several states where assembly elections will also be held, one of them being Odisha which has become the subject of much discussion. A former congressman here recently sold part of his ancestral land to meet the financial expenses of his candidate daughter.
In fact, Devendra Sharma, who represented the Aol constituency in Kanderpara district between 2014 and 2019, recently sold his waas land for quintals in his native village. Facing immense financial constraints and challenges, Sharma expressed concern over the lack of financial help from the Congress party, citing the freezing of the party’s accounts by the Income Tax department.
The former MK said, “My daughter Dr. Debsmita Sharma (28) is contesting from the constituency from which my father and I were first elected as members of the Legislative Assembly. Alongside this, he mentioned the financial pressure on the family due to campaign expenses. According to him, it has become challenging to meet the required election expenses.
