North East Border Railway on track to achieve ‘Grow-Green’ target – News18 Bangla Achi-News

Calcutta: North East Frontier Railway is continuously progressing in line with Indian Railways policy to achieve zero carbon emissions target by 2030. As part of its efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, North East Frontier Railway has taken several steps to generate more green energy by installing rooftop solar power plants in service buildings and other facilities under its jurisdiction.

Under the ‘Go Green’ campaign, 6747 Kilo Watt Peak (KWP) is being generated through roof top panels which have already been installed in 146 stations and other service buildings under the North East Frontier Railway till April 2024 , resulting in a saving of 47.05 lakh units of electricity Service buildings and other installations in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland have been added to the list of contributions for generating solar energy through roof panels .

657 Kwp, 426 Kwp, 925 Kwp, 1035 Kwp and 207 Kwp of solar power are generated at Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangia, Lamding and Tinsukia respectively for daily use by department. North East Frontier Railway’s head office complex in Guwahati also contributes 1497 KWP to this production process. Two workshops have also installed 1000 KWP solar plants at New Bangaigaon and Dibrugarh respectively In the recently completed financial year 2023-24, 18 other stations and service buildings in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal have installed roof panels solar which produces 609 KWP of solar. force.

Solar rooftop power plants have been installed at 20, 220 and 369 locations in Alipurduar, Rangia and Lamding divisions respectively. Solar panels have been installed at major stations like Dhupaguri and Phalakata in Alipurduar Division, Agartala and Sabrum in Lamding and Dhlaibil Division, Nij Chatia, Nij Bargang, Sarbhog, Patiladah, Bijni, Dhupadhara, Rangjuli and Shingra under Rangia District. North East Frontier Railway is committed to maximizing the use of solar energy to meet its energy requirements. This will help meet the daily power needs of stations and other service buildings. As well as being environmentally friendly, this will help save valuable cash for the railways and foreign exchange for the country.
