Amid the Lok Sabha elections, there is a tussle between the Election Commission and an NGO (ADR). Meanwhile, the data of five phases has been uploaded by the Election Commission (ECI) on its official website. On the other hand, the Supreme Court refused to give instructions in the petition to upload Form 17C (the registered vote count). Addressing the petitioners, the court said that attempts to disrupt the elections cannot be made.

Welcome to the Supreme Court decision

The Election Commission (ECI) welcomed this decision of the Supreme Court. ECI said that no one can tamper with the polling data and voter turnout on the polling day. The election committee also emphasized that every time an attempt was made to thwart the election process by inventing false stories. The committee clearly stated that there was no delay in publishing the survey data.

‘Data already exists in the form of a turnout app’

ECI said that the data related to each parliamentary constituency was already available with the people in the form of voting app. Earlier, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) filed a petition with the Supreme Court. The petition states that information on all polling stations must be uploaded immediately after voting. ADR also demanded that copies of Form 17C (recorded vote account) be uploaded of the polling stations immediately after voting. The election committee then submitted an affidavit to the court. The affidavit stated that uploading the voting data to its website within 48 hours could lead to disturbances in the entire election sector, as the possibility of sabotage increases. The Election Commission also stated in the affidavit that it is not possible to upload Form 17C in public since there is no such provision in the law.

“Every time an atmosphere of doubt is created in the elections”

The Election Commission also alleged that some people are making baseless and false claims every time by creating an atmosphere of doubt during the election. This is so that the election committee can be discredited. Thereafter, the bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma refused to grant relief to the petitioners. The court said that the petitioners cannot disrupt the elections.
