The Supreme Court on Wednesday canceled the bail of eight alleged members of the banned organization PFI, setting aside a decision of the Madras High Court. A case was registered against PFI members under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. A bench of Supreme Court Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mittal canceled the bail of the PFI members and asked them to surrender.
PFI members were granted bail by the Madras High Court on October 19 last year. The National Investigation Authority (NIA) filed a petition with the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision. During the hearing of the petition, the Supreme Court bench said that national security is always above all else and any association with terrorism must be prohibited. Khalid Muhammad, Syed Ishaq, Haja Mohidin, Yasser Arafat and Fayaz Ahmed were all arrested in September 2022.
