  • Currently applicable adjustments of over Rs4 per unit to end on 30th.
  • Rs85.2bn to be raised from power consumers through recent tariff hike.
  • New hike will also apply to K-Electric, except for rescue users.

ISLAMABAD: Now power consumers will have to bear an additional burden of Rs2.75 per unit as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved raising the tariff for the current quarter of the financial year 2023-24.

The latest increase in quarterly adjustment worth a total of Rs85.2 billion was approved for the second quarter of FY2023-24, with a uniform impact of Rs2.75 per unit on all consumers.

Currently the application of two quarterly adjustments of Rs4.43 per unit will cease to exist from March 30, 2024, according to a statement issued by the power regulatory authority on Thursday.

He added that the authority had decided to apply the second quarterly adjustment from April 2024 onwards ie after the current applicable adjustments had ended.

The additional amount will be charged by “XWDISCOs and K-Electric” users, excluding rescue users, in electricity bills from April, May and June.

The Nepra forwarded its decision regarding the new hike in power tariff to the federal government which would be notified after its final approval.

Earlier in January, a hike of Rs4.12 per unit in electricity price was approved by the Nepra due to “monthly fuel adjustment” for all consumers, except rescue customers and K-Electric, according to The news.

Before approving the hike in January, the authority had secured an increase of Rs2.87 per unit for K-Electric consumers just two days before increasing the power tariff for consumers of other DISCOs.
