Hundreds of cars and trucks lined both sides of the highway on the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on Monday morning as anti-carbon tax activists took their protest to the land crossing.

The protest began early in the morning, with RCMP eventually closing the highway around 10 am, diverting traffic to a secondary road.

Traffic in the Aulac area of New Brunswick has remained almost at a standstill, but there is some movement.

An RCMP helicopter is flying back and forth over the area, while nearly a dozen police vehicles are still there.

More to come.
