Hundreds of cars and trucks lined both sides of the highway on the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on Monday as anti-carbon tax activists took their protest to the land crossing.

The protest began early in the morning, with RCMP eventually closing the highway around 10 am, diverting traffic to a secondary road.

On the New Brunswick side of the border, traffic is backed up almost as far as Sackville.

An RCMP helicopter is flying back and forth over the area, while nearly a dozen police vehicles are still there.

More to come.
