A 12-hour operation, 23 Pakistanis were saved
On March 28, the Indian Navy received a notification. The message said that the ship Al-Kamber 786 was seized by pirates about 90 nautical miles southwest of Socotra, Yemen in the Indian Ocean. Without wasting time, the Indian Navy sent INS Sumedha for this mission. Later INS Trishul was also included in this mission. On March 29, INS Sumedha and INS Trishul intercepted the ship El Camber. In this operation which lasted for 12 hours, the Indian Navy forced the pirates to surrender. All 23 Pakistani nationals and crew on board were rescued safely.
When MV Ruin was rescued from pirates
Even before that, the Indian Navy had successfully carried out a major operation. On December 14, 2023, the Malta-flagged cargo ship MV Ruin was surrounded by pirates. As soon as the Indian Navy got this message, it started tracking the cargo ship. It was reported that six pirates captured the ship in the Arabian Sea. The Navy then began to follow him. The Navy deployed a warship in the Gulf of Aden to locate the cargo ship. During this period it was also revealed that a crew member present on the ship was injured. The rescue operation was launched by the navy without wasting time. In this operation that lasted four days, the wounded sailor was removed from the ship and taken to Oman for treatment. However, the ship was captured by pirates and taken to Somalia. Now it was a big challenge for the Indian Navy to bring this ship back. The Indian Navy also used aerial platforms and other ships to monitor the ship. Three months later, on March 14, 2024, the ship MV Ruin was sighted off the coast of Somalia during an aerial reconnaissance. Then, on March 15, the Indian Navy deployed its warship INS Kolkata to stop MV Ruin. The next morning INS Kolkata surrounded the ship captured by the pirates. Forty hours later the fleet forced 35 pirates to surrender. The 17 crew members taken hostage on board the ship were rescued.
