A police officer was injured Monday in one of two incidents involving drivers who crashed their vehicles into a patrol car, Montreal police said.
In the first case, the police investigated a report of a stolen vehicle driven by someone who attacked a police officer in Dorval. Around 12:30 the police located a vehicle that had been reported stolen. A suspect was seen getting into a vehicle at the intersection of 55th Avenue and Lindsay Avenue, and they said at least one other person was inside.
The police say that the first suspect fled the scene and was caught after a short foot chase.
The second suspect took off in the vehicle and collided with a police cruiser, which in turn hit the officer. The police officer was injured without life-threatening injuries.
Police lost sight of the speeding vehicle, but later located it on the shores of Bord-du-Lac-Lake in Pointe-Claire.
The freeway was closed for a short time, and officers are combing the area for the second suspect.
Second incident in Rosemont
Police are also investigating another incident after officers spotted an unregistered black Honda CRV committing several traffic violations, including crashing into another vehicle, around 2:30 p.m. in Rosemont.
Police tried to stop the vehicle, which “deliberately” drove into an oncoming patrol car, police spokeswoman Veronique Dubok said. The patrol was severely damaged, but no civilians or police officers were injured.
There was no police chase. After the suspect — a Caucasian man believed to be in his 30s — fled the scene, police began receiving several 911 calls about traffic violations. Dubuc said the driver could face charges of dangerous driving, armed assault and hit and run.
Following the collision, 18th Avenue was closed between Mason Street and Laurier Avenue.
