If you’re looking for a place to dump that old fridge, outdated sound system or subpar mattress, seven new eco-centres opened on the island of Montreal on Monday.

Everything that enters the ecological centers is recycled and this includes Styrofoam, construction waste and even branches, which can be turned into wood chips for energy production. Metal springs from old mattresses can be melted down and recycled.

Tires and hazardous household items are also accepted.

The city encourages residents to visit montreal.ca to find the nearest eco-centre and what items are accepted. For the purpose of the visit, identification and proof of address is necessary.

The centers are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are free to anyone who lives on the island of Montreal.
