Longueuil Police (SPAL) are looking for an alleged thief after two people tried to steal “thousands” of gallons of gasoline from a Broussard service station early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at 2:15 in the morning at a gas station in Grand Alley, near Route 30.

Their plan was thwarted when the police arrived on the scene in the middle of the operation.

According to the force, the suspects were caught in the act when they poured gasoline into the cans and put them in the truck.

A 19-year-old man was immediately arrested on the spot.

“One of the two suspects fled on foot,” said Melanie Mercil, spokeswoman for the Longueuil Police Department. “The police are still working to locate him with the help of a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) dog handler.

The boy who was arrested was taken into custody and is expected to meet with investigators later today on Tuesday.

“He could face charges for theft of more than $5,000,” Marcille notes. “He has no criminal record in Longui.”

The truck and the stolen fuel were located by the police.
