Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir has praised team captain Babar Azam and the team management for fostering a positive atmosphere in the dressing room as the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches.
Amir, 31, has returned to international cricket after a break of almost four years, reversing his decision to retire following a standout performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.
Pakistan won the second T20I against New Zealand comfortably, restricting the visitors to just 90 runs in the first innings and managing to chase down the target with 47 balls to spare. Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer of the winning team.
In a post-match press conference, Amir praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management and Babar, attributing the creation of a positive team environment to their efforts, which he believes will be vital with the World Cup just around the corner. .
“In the previous video I recorded with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), I gave them credit for their management. The current management, which includes Azhar [Ali] bhai [Mohammad] Yousuf bhai, Wahab [Riaz] bhai, and Babar [Azam] is the captain they are all trying to create a positive environment and I think the atmosphere in the team is very good at the moment,” said Amir after the match.
“The elderly and the younger get on well. Our aim is to win the World Cup and that is our only focus and we believe that if we keep the team environment great, we will be able to achieve a lot for the team.”
It is worth noting that Amir, who was playing his first match for Pakistan since 2019, made an immediate impact by dismissing Tim Robinson for just four runs in his first over.
Amir continued to disrupt the visitors’ batting line-up in his second over, claiming the wicket of Dean Foxcroft, with captain Babar Azam making a simple catch.
He ended his spell with impressive figures of 2/13 in three overs, playing a key role in the Pakistani bowling.
