Thousands of students across the country are at risk of losing a school year or being forced to repeat the same grade due to uncertainty about promotion.

Speaking to GPlus, Pratik Harleka, a distressed parent, said, "Initially, the girl was promoted to first grade, but later we learned that she would have to repeat the same class for another year. This is incredibly discouraging for such young students."

Harleka’s child is not yet six years old, so it is not possible to go up to grade 1.

Haralka emphasized the psychological impact on his child, stating, "She will feel left out when her friends move to the next class while she stays in the same class with younger students."

"Now they have added one more standard that starts high front"The parent informed GPlus.

Concerns about non-promotion extend beyond individual cases. Another parent called attention to the issue, and emphasized the plight of senior KG students who are not promoted to first grade, which may affect thousands of children aged 5-6.

Dilip Deka, another parent, spoke to GPlus, "My child was only three days from the age of six when the school refused to raise her. It was incredibly traumatic for her."

A number of schools have issued warnings, suggesting that if students are promoted against the regulations, parents will be held responsible if their children are unable to sit their HSLC exams.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the importance of early childhood education, emphasizing a holistic approach to learning and development. It describes a structure of 5+3+3+4, including care and early childhood education (ECCE) from the age of three, with the aim of improving overall learning outcomes.

However, in a conversation with GPlus, a senior official from the Ministry of Education stated, "Private schools must closely follow government guidelines." The official stressed, "In government schools, students are usually six years old when they enter first grade." The official pleaded with private institutions, saying, "It is important for them to adhere to similar age criteria."
