McGill University says it has “requested police assistance” regarding the pro-Palestinian encampment on its Lower Field.
“We informed the participants that this encampment was not authorized and gave them time to collect their belongings and leave the premises,” McGill said on Tuesday. “However, most of them chose to stay. When we were working on the steps, we also had a dialogue with McGill student representatives.”
The university says it was unable to reach a solution with the student protesters and “decided to take the final step in our protocol.”
Officials say they requested police assistance late Monday afternoon, and officers are now on the scene.
McGill goes on to say, “The safety and well-being of all our students and staff is our utmost concern.”
