The Indian Air Force and Navy have introduced long-range supersonic air-to-surface missiles to improve the strike capability of their fighter fleets. These missiles can hit targets up to a distance of 250 kilometers. These missiles, known as High Speed Low Drag Mark-2 missiles, are used by a few select militaries of the world. These missiles were used in the recent attacks carried out by the Israeli Air Force on Iranian targets.

Defense sources said the Indian Air Force has placed these missiles on Jaguar fighter jets along with Sukhoi-30 MKI and MiG-29 fighter jets. Similarly, the Indian Navy has also included these missiles in its fleet for the MiG-29(K) naval combat aircraft. These missiles will make it easier for Indian fighter pilots to attack and destroy targets such as communication centers or radar stations.

The production of these missiles is considered under Make in India.

These missiles were purchased by the Ministry of Defense after the conflict with China began in 2020. The Indian Air Force is now also considering whether these missiles can be manufactured under the Make in India programme.
