Officers said that the man, aged 49, was hit by a black Citroen C4 car shortly after 8am.

Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by ambulance where he later died.

The driver of the car was not injured. The road was closed and reopened at around 1.50pm.
Sergeant Chris McColm of Lanarkshire Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened or may have dash cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch.
