The plant is located in Phase II of MIDC at Dombivali in Thane district.

A fire broke out due to a boiler explosion in a chemical factory at 1.40pm on Thursday in Dombivali in Maharashtra’s Thane district. 7 died and 40 people were injured in the accident. Among the dead are 5 men and 2 women.

This factory is located in the campus of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation ie MIDC Phase-2.

Local people said there were three small explosions in a row. They were so loud that they were heard for about 3 km. There were cracks in the glasses of nearby buildings. At the same time, a number of nearby houses were damaged due to the explosion. The reason for the accident is not yet clear.

According to the state Industries Minister Uday Samant, this factory was closed. Most of those who died were from the nearby factory. He was working there at the time of the accident.

Fadnavis said – 8 people suspended
Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on the Dombivali fire incident. He said the incident of boiler explosion in Dombivali chemical company was sad. 8 people have been suspended from their work in the case.

He further said that arrangements are being made for the treatment of the injured. Several ambulances were kept ready. I have discussed with the collector and he too should be there within 10 minutes. Teams from NDRF, TDRF and the fire brigade were also called.

Shrikant Shinde said – he will move such chemical plant outside in next 6 months
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde also reached the spot. Speaking to the media, he said that we are getting treatment for the injured. In order to prevent such incidents from happening, we will be moving chemical factories out of residential areas in the next 6 months. Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant said the factory was closed for many months. It was started a few days ago.
