In Hopal: Sand bakery Mowed Sub Assistant Superintendent of Police Shahdol district. The deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Bagri, 37, a resident of Singapore Bastana, who was posted at Beohari Police Station in Shahdol District.
but Bagri went to arrest the accused with his two colleagues in the village of Baduli. Around 23:45 they saw a tractor loaded with sand coming towards them, near the village of Hadoli. He got out of his vehicle and asked the tractor driver to stop, but instead the driver mowed him to death.
The driver identified as Raj Rawat, 19, was later arrested by the other officers along with Ashutosh Singh who is the son of the tractor owner.
Senior police officials have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for the arrest of the owner of the tractor.
When contacted, SP Shahdol, Kumar Prateek said, “The accused brought illegally mined sand from the banks of river Samdhin located about 8 km from where the incident took place. The deceased officer went to implement a permanent arrest warrant with his colleagues, but when they saw the tractor trailer coming, they tried to stop it. The deceased got off and asked the tractor driver to stop, but instead of stopping, he ran over him. The two defendants who were present at the scene were arrested by other colleagues, searches are underway for the owner of the tractor.”
This is the second such incident in six months in the same district where two government employees were killed by sand mafia. “We questioned the tractor driver who is only 19 years old, he said he got scared and ran over the policeman,” Prateek told TOI.
Earlier on November 25, a patwari was cut down and run over under a tractor by the sand mining mafia in Gopalpur village under Deolund police station in Shahdol district. The deceased has been identified as Farshan Singh, 40, who was posted as a patwari in the Beohari revenue division.
