The Railway Board recently issued a notification saying that Farakka Express, traveling to Delhi, would be run from Balurghat station in South Dinajpur instead of Maldah Town station. Not only that, the railway board has also announced the new schedule of Farakka Express in the notification. At the same time, two new stops of Farakka Express at Buniadpur and Eklakhi between Maldah and South Dinajpur have been announced, and this is the political mercury in Maldah in view of the vote.

Trinamool and Congress are announcing the issue as a deprivation for the people of Malda. The Congress and Trinamool Malda leadership have targeted BJP state president and Balurghat MP Sukant Majumder behind the transfer of this train from Malda to Balurghat. At the same time, BJP MP Malda Khagen Murmu claimed that the issue was an internal battle of the BJP. Rivals Congress and Trinamool did not spare the BJP leadership.

Not only the political troubles, the protest has started on the road on the issue of transfer of Farakka Express to Malda. Trinamool has come down to earth to stop the transfer of trains under the name of civil society. Protest marches, demonstrations at the DRM office were not left out. The protesters argue that the Farakka Express is a highly profitable train of the Malda Railway Department. Many workers get the facility to go to foreign states on this train every day. Not only that, Farakka Express is also very important in terms of local employment starting from business and trade in the area. It is also alleged that if the train is shifted from Malda to Balurghat, Malda’s business, employment and passenger services will be affected. The Trinamool also demanded that the Farakka Express be diverted from Malda to Balurghat to New Delhi. The Trinamool leadership is desperate to announce the issue in the face of polls. All in all, the change of the ‘Farakka Express’ in the face of polls has added a new dimension to the electoral battle in Isu Malda.
