Voting for the Lok Sabha elections will be held in Delhi this coming Saturday, May 25. It was decided to keep all shops closed across Delhi on this day, so that shopkeepers and workers could vote. If a shopkeeper opens his shop also on the day of the vote, he will have to give an additional day off along with wages to the employees in return. The trade association CTI made this decision in view of the elections.

Brijesh Goyal, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CTI), the apex body of the traders, told Amar Ojala that the traders and all market associations have jointly decided that all shops will remain closed on Saturday in light of the Lok Sabha elections. If for some reason some shops will remain open , so in return they will have to give one day of paid leave to the workers. Along with that, they will also have to give the workers time to vote. This rule will also apply in the industrial sector.

Goyal said that CTI has given notice to all the businessmen that the salary of any employee or employee should not be deducted. The Election Commission and the Ministry of Labor also ordered paid vacations for employees and staff to vote in the elections. In this regard discussions were also held with the officials of the Delhi Market Association. He said that on May 25, all the 700 markets including the wholesale markets of Delhi will remain completely closed.

The labor department of the state government also issued an order, according to the provisions of Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, every person employed in any business, trade, industrial enterprise or any other enterprise shall have the right to vote in elections to the Lok Sabha or the Assembly. He will get a day off on polling day. The order also states that section 135b does not apply to such employees, whose absence poses a threat to work or causes a huge loss.
