The northeastern state of Meghalaya has two Lok Sabha seats (Shillong and Tura). Both Meghalaya seats were traditional Congress seats. There is talk of a Tora seat, whether it was during the Congress or after the establishment of the National Congress. This seat remained with the Sangma family. Former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma was an MP from here. Now Agatha Sangma of National People’s Party (NPP) is the MP in this seat. The most special thing about the Meghalaya Lok Sabha elections this time is that NPP fielded women candidates from both the seats. The vote for Both these Lok Sabha sittings will be held on April 19.
The second seat of Meghalaya is Shillong. This session was a traditional session of the Congress. The Shillong seat was a Congress stronghold. Congress has never faced defeat here since 1998. Currently Vincent Pala of Congress is the MP from here. These two seats are reserved. It is noteworthy that this time BJP has not fielded its candidates in Meghalaya. BJP gave both seats to NDA alliance partner NPP.
Ampareen Lyngdoh will challenge Pala from Shillong.
The Shillong seat was a traditional Congress seat. Only the Congress Parliament was here. Congress has never lost this seat since 1998. Vincent Pala of Congress is the MP from here since 2009, 2014 and 2019. This time, NPP has fielded Amprin Lyngdu, a cabinet minister in the Meghalaya government, to challenge Vincent Pala, who has been the MP from the Shillong seat for the past three consecutive terms. It is worth noting that late of Lyngdoh. Father Peter G Marbanyang was a Lok Sabha MP from 1989 to 1996. This time a tough contest is seen between Pala and Lyngdoh. It remains to be seen whether Pala will be able to save Mauza or whether Lyngdu will step on the threshold of Lok Sabha for the first time.

This time we will see an interesting competition between three Sangams in a row. Agatha Sangma of NPP is currently the Member of Parliament from here. Agatha Sangma is the daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker Sangma and sister of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. The Tura Lok Sabha constituency has been held by the Sangma family since 1991. TMC has fielded Zenith Sangma, brother of former Mghalaya CM Mukul Sangma. Candidate Congress, slang a sangma, is contesting from Toora. It will be interesting to see which sangma the public will send to the Lok Sabha this time.
