But K Padmarajan from Tamil Nadu has been contesting many elections for 35 years. Known as Election King, he has fought in 238 elections so far. The special thing is that he has never won. He has fought and lost not only the positions of President, MP, MLA but also local body elections and created a record. Now they are once again preparing to test their luck in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. 65 year old K. Padmarajan has been contesting elections since 1988. Currently, he is preparing to contest from Dharmapuri district in Tamil Nadu.

Competing against the giants

Padmarajan’s specialty is that he has contested elections in the different states of the country. Padmarajan has a history of fighting against political stalwarts like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He is called the Electoral King for this reason. “My aim is not to win, the real success is to compete in the elections, I will be happy if I lose again,” he said.

Deposits were not accepted in all elections

Padmarajan, who runs a tire repair shop, sells homeopathic medicines and works as an editor in a local media house. Padmarajan has lost 238 elections so far, losing his deposit every time and losing lakhs of lakhs.

In 2011, Padmarajan, who had contested for the Mettur Assembly, did not cast his vote except for one. The highest number of polled votes in his election history over the years is 6273. Padmarajan has joined the Limca Book of Records for losing all the elections he has contested so far. He got his name as the candidate who lost most times.
