Kolkata: Indian cricket fans know about Pathan Brothers. Now former cricketer Yusuf Pathan has started his innings in politics. He contested the Lok Sabha elections as a TMC candidate from Baharampur constituency in West Bengal. Yusuf Pathan is campaigning hard for victory. But the conduct of Yusuf Pathan’s campaign has made the Election Commission red-faced.

Do not use World Cup images

Yusuf Pathan was part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 2011. Objection was expressed that his portrait was used for an election campaign. Examining the complaint, the Election Commission banned the use of promotional images of India’s victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Congress grievance against Pathan

On March 26, Pathan used Sachin Tendulkar’s photos during his Lok Sabha election campaign. The Congress had submitted a complaint to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). In this background, Khadak warning has been given to Pathan.

The commission has directed the former Indian cricketer to remove all promotional flexes containing images related to India’s victory in the 2021 World Cup.

Pathan said he had the right

When the Congress lodged its complaint on Tuesday, Pathan said he had every right to use images related to the World Cup as he was part of the winning team. India’s victory in ODI World Cup 2011 is the pride of every Indian. The Electoral Commission said that the Congress would have to accept the argument that the sentiment should not be exploited.

When will Bengal vote?

Elections to the state’s 42 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases on April 19, 26, May 7, 13, 20, 25 and June 1.

Election information

The first phase of the elections will begin on April 19, and the final phase of the 7th phase will be held on June 1. The election results will be out on June 4. Voting for 102 constituencies in the first phase will be on April 19 Voting will be held on April 26 for 89 constituencies in the second phase, 94 constituencies in the third phase, 96 in the fourth phase, 49 in the fifth phase, 57 in the sixth phase and 57 in the seventh phase.
