Chandigarh: It was recently reported that Shiromani Akali Dal, which had left the NDA alliance against the Agrarian Acts, will join the NDA alliance again. There was also a campaign that the two parties would go together for the Lok Sabha elections. Discussions have progressed to that extent. Recently, those talks broke down. BJP has announced that it will contest alone in the upcoming elections in Punjab. Along with this, there will be a four-fold contest for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab in the elections to be held on June 1. The Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal will contest separately.
SAD left the NDA in 2020
Akali Dal left the NDA in September 2020. However, the BJP is merging the parties that left the NDA in the run-up to the general elections. Does this include Akali Dal? When asked by the media recently, Amit Shah said that the talks are underway. He wished all the NDA parties to be united. But the talks between the two parties failed and the BJP decided to fight alone.
Competition in 13 fields
BJP state president Sunil Jakhad said that this decision was taken according to the opinion of people, workers and party leaders. Sources said the alliance collapsed after the Akali Dal refused to win five of the 13 seats.

At the national level, the SAD formed an alliance with the BJP as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Both the parties fought together in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but could not get the expected results. Congress (8) had won more seats during the Modi wave. BJP, Akali Dal and AAP won 5 seats.
Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal had recently denied the news that the alliance talks with the BJP were happening again. But the possibility of a future alliance was not completely ruled out. But the BJP president has confirmed that there is no alliance with the president announcing that he would contest alone. AAP made alliances elsewhere too, in Punjab it decided to contest only 13 constituencies without joining the hands of INDIA.
