Aam Aadmi Party member Amanatullah Khan

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after nine hours of investigation in the Delhi Wakf Property and Funds case. Amanatullah is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party and is the MLA from Delhi’s Okhla Assembly constituency in the sixth Delhi Legislative Assembly. Amanatullah Khan is the elected chairman of the Delhi Wakf Board since November 2020. He was accused of illegal appointment in the Delhi Wakf Board. ED interrogated him in this case and arrested him on Thursday.

Earlier, ED took cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Rs 36 crore property case linked to Amantullah. ED has filed a charge sheet against the accused Zeeshan Haider, his partnership firm Skypower, Javed Imam Siddiqui, Dawood Nasir and Kausar Siddiqui. He was later arrested. ED alleged that at Khan’s behest, property worth Rs 36 crore was purchased with wrongful profits.

It is alleged that there were alleged irregularities in the recruitment of employees to the Delhi Wakf Board as part of a money laundering investigation linked to Khan. The charges included misappropriation of assets worth Rs 100 crore and embezzlement of funds along with giving jobs to people in the Delhi Wakf Board.

In October 2023, the ED, after conducting searches at premises related to Khan and others, alleged that the MLA had earned huge criminal profits in the form of cash from illegally recruiting Delhi Wakf Board employees and invested it in purchases. This investment was made in the form of real estate in the name of his associates. Waqf properties were given illegal leases between 2018-2022.

Allegation of illegal appointment in Delhi Wakf Board

There is a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR and three complaints by the Delhi Police against him under money laundering. Recently ED raided his place. The ED alleged that he had amassed substantial illegal wealth in cash through the illegal appointment of workers in the Delhi Wakf Board.

These funds were allegedly invested in the purchase of real estate in the name of his associates. It is alleged that during Khan’s tenure as chairman in the years 2018 to 2022, illegal recruitment and improper leasing of Waqf Board properties were granted. The Supreme Court ordered him to join the investigation on April 18 and cooperate in the investigation.

An old relationship with disputes

On 20 July 2016, a woman alleged that the AAP MLA was threatened by Khan’s supporters after she complained about the electricity supply. Subsequently, a case was registered against Khan for allegedly threatening him at the Jamia Nagar police station in south Delhi. However, Khan termed the woman’s accusation as false.

A year later, before the local municipal elections, members of the Congress and the Aam Aami Party clashed with each other in the Jamia Nagar area. On 28 January 2018, two members of Congress filed an assault case against Khan.

On 20 February 2018, a case was registered against Khan and fellow MLA Prakash Jarwal by Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash for alleged slapping and misconduct.

Amanatullah is a two-time MLA member from Ohala.

Amanthullah Khan contested the 2008 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections and the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections as a Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate, but had to face defeat. Amanatullah Khan has been a member of the Aam Aadmi Party since 2015. He contested and won the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections in 2015 and became a member of the sixth Delhi Legislative Assembly.
