Richard Taylor, Lidl GB’s chief development officer, said: “Having strengthened our infrastructure with significant investments such as Luton, which is Lidl’s largest warehouse in the world, we are delighted to have achieved a record market share this month . We are also the fastest growing brick and mortar supermarket for the past seven consecutive months. With an exceptional store network and our laser focus on operational excellence, we are welcoming more customers through our doors than ever before, which positions us perfectly for continued expansion.”

He added: “As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that every household across the country has access to high quality products at affordable prices is stronger than ever. We intend to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately we see no ceiling on our ambition or our potential to grow. That’s why we continue to invest in new locations while exploring innovative avenues for expansion. As we look forward, we’re excited to welcome even more new shoppers to our existing stores, as well as those we plan to open across the country in the coming months and years next.”

Lidl said it was “specifically looking for sites in prominent locations with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow, with 1.5-plus acres for a freestanding store and up to four acres for mixed-use schemes”.

He added: “Sites should allow for unit sizes between 18,000 and 26,500 sq ft and over 100 dedicated parking spaces, and Lidl’s flexible approach means it will consider freehold, leasehold or long lease opportunities.”
