JAMMU, APRIL 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today directed the Power Development Department to ensure that sufficient electricity is available during the summer.

He was chairing a review meeting of the Power Development Department. Various issues related to power supply during the coming summer months and the progress of key projects and plans were discussed at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Department of Finance; H. Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary, Power Development Department; Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; and officers of Jammu and Kashmir Power DISCOMs, Chief Engineers and other senior officers.

The Lieutenant Governor discussed the power situation and reviewed the progress of key power projects. He took stock of the measures taken to curb AT&C losses, capacity additions, and the progress registered on the installation of smart meters.

Addressing concerns about power theft, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for more enforcement efforts on the ground. He further directed to simplify the process for new power connections for the convenience of users.

The meeting also discussed the progress on the underground cable project for the Grid connectivity of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (from Rayil Patri to the Holy Cave and from Sangam top to Panjtarni). The Lt. Governor directed the officials to ensure timely completion of the work before the holy Yatra begins.

The Lieutenant Governor instructed the officers to ensure that sufficient power is available during the summer season. He also emphasized on raising awareness of the ‘PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ scheme where households will be able to save electricity bills as well as earn additional income by selling surplus power to DISCOMs.
