The attempt of the municipal corporation to catch the beggars at the city signal and put them in shelters has not been very successful. So now the fund will be adopted to transport the beggars directly to their native village. The Municipal Corporation’s Encroachment Removal Department has started a campaign to remove beggars from Signal and the proposal to send these beggars back to their native villages is being considered, said Nitin Nere, Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Removal Department.
In the city, the number of beggars has increased on a large scale at the signals of Dwarka, Trimbakanaka, Gadkari Chowk, Fame Cinema, Mumbai Naka, etc. Although not much work is done by the men among these beggars, the women sell items such as alarms, plastic bags, toys, while their children and the elderly can be seen begging at the signal . Most of these beggars are foreigners. A few days ago, there was an incident of accidental death of a seven-year-old girl who was begging at a signal in the city. There are also complaints that these beggars block motorists, abuse them if they don’t pay. Therefore, the encroachment removal department has started a campaign to remove beggars from signals.
Probability of delay
Beggars’ materials are confiscated and they are moved to the municipal homeless shelter center in Tapovana. However, due to the habit of earning money by begging every day, the said beggar person once again shows the signal. Therefore, the proposal to transport these beggars directly to their native village is under consideration by the Municipal Corporation. Of course, who will be responsible for the expenses incurred for this, even after bringing them to their native village, they will not return, but since the municipal corporation has no answer, the proposal of the municipality is more likely to get stuck.
