The exchange reportedly began when former England cricketer-turned-commentator Kevin Pietersen, while commentating the Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians match, suggested that the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the US, could use players like Kohli to do so. popular.

Petersen stated, "The World Cup is being held in USA. India is playing Pakistan in New York. You would want someone like Virat Kohli to help the game grow."

But Shastri disagreed, saying that winning is more important than growing the game. He mentioned India’s 2007 T20 World Cup win with a young team, reports said.

Kohli’s performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Punjab Kings has added fuel to the conversation on whether he should play in the T20 World Cup.
