GUWAHATI: Ranjit Dutta, a veteran politician representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is emerging as a prominent candidate contesting from the Sonitpur constituency in the upcoming elections. With extensive experience in administration, Dutta presents himself as a formidable candidate for the position.
Educational qualification:
• Duta’s highest educational qualification is the completion of his pre-university examination at Darang College in 1974-75.

Political profile:
• Having served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for multiple terms, Dutta boasts of a distinguished political background. From 2001 to 2011 and again from 2016 to date, he represented the Halli constituency.
• It should be noted that Dutta held several key ministerial portfolios in the Assam government, including Agriculture, Handloom and Textiles, Irrigation and Minority Welfare, from 2016 to 2021.
Asset liabilities:
• In terms of financial disclosure, Dota’s total revenue for the financial year 2022-23 stands at Rs 12,44,087. His asset portfolio includes movable assets worth Rs 1,46,93,790 and immovable assets to the tune of Rs 54,00,000. However, Duta has declared liabilities to the tune of Rs 20,79,626 crore.
