Kerala: Arali (haunted) flowers have been banned from more than 2,600 temples in Kerala. This decision was taken by the Devaswom Boards keeping in mind the health of the people.

The two boards of Devaswom managing more than 2,600 temples in Kerala have taken an important decision. Now, early flowers (Harduf) will not be used for rituals in temples run by the Devaswom Board. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) and Malabar Devaswom Board (MDB) have taken this decision as these flowers are poisonous in nature and can harm animals including humans.

A big decision made after the meeting

Travancore Devoswam Board (TDB) president PS Prashanth says this decision was taken by the board after a meeting. Let us tell you that TDB has been entrusted with the management of 1,248 temples in Travancore. Apart from this, MBD takes care of the management of 1,400 temples. In all, there are more than 2,600 temples under the two slabs. Now the early blooming has been banned in all these temples. MBD president MR Murali says this decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the people.

What do the scientists say?

According to scientists, the oleander (Nerium oleander) is a flowering shrub. It contains a chemical called toxic cardiac glycosides, the consumption of which can cause death. Cardiac glycosides present in the chase affect the heart. These chemicals can slow the heart rate.
