New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday heard Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest in a money laundering case related to the excise fraud. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is very hopeful of getting good news in this case today. “AAP is confident that the Supreme Court will allow Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections,” said Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.
It is said that a bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutt in the Supreme Court may hear Chief Minister Kejriwal’s petition. Sourav Bharadwaj said in this context, “We are sure that the Supreme Court will allow Arvind Kejriwal to campaign to save democracy and protect the electoral process properly in this country.”
Notably, Arvind Kejriwal had earlier told the Supreme Court that his ‘illegal arrest’ was an unprecedented attack on the principles of democracy based on ‘free and fair elections’ and ‘federalism’. Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal also said the manner and timing of his arrest just before the Lok Sabha elections was indicative of the agency’s “arbitrariness”. According to Arvind Kejriwal, he was arrested when the model code of conduct for elections came into force.”
