The issue of the island of Cachataibo is again under discussion. The reason is the information that came out from the RTI application. In fact, BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai filed an RTI and asked about Katchatheevu. Now in response to RTI it is said that in 1974, then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sri Lankan President Srimabu Bandaranaike made an agreement. Under this, the island of Kachataibo was officially handed over to Sri Lanka.
After the information is released, BJP attacks the Congress. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the External Affairs Minister, this issue has been raised. The Prime Minister said that weakening the unity, integrity and interests of India has been the way of work of the Congress for 75 years. Earlier in August 2023, the prime minister also raised this issue while answering the motion of no confidence brought by the opposition. This issue is again in the headlines ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
