SRINAGAR: In order to review the functional and operational protocols of child care institutions, Justice Tashi Ravstan, Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir Valdak, (Acting Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority), visited the Open Shelter for Girls and State today .Adoption Agency (Phulwari) in Sanatnagar, Srinagar.
Justice Tashi was accompanied by Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority and Muzamil Hait Kabli, Under Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority.
Mukhtir Ahmed, District Welfare Officer, Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, Satinder Kaur, Superintendent, Open Asylum, Ulfat, Inchar Flory were present on the occasion.
During his visit, Judge Tashi Rabstan reviewed the facilities and protocols followed by the State Adoption Agency (SA) and the open daycare center for girls. He took stock of every facility from the kitchen to the counseling room and recreation facilities to skills development programs.
Judge Tashi emphasized on ensuring security measures, including the installation of closed-circuit cameras in and around the area, for the safety and well-being of the prisoners. He emphasized the significance of providing a nurturing environment to the girls in Phulwari’s care besides ensuring transparent and efficient adoption procedures. The Phulwari team, during an interaction with Justice Tashi, raised the issue of non-availability of physiotherapist and speech therapist for specially-abled children.
Judge Tashi instead issued instructions to the district welfare officer to hire these experts for the prisoners. While expressing satisfaction with the facilities available at Phulwari, Justice Tashi appreciated the efforts of the welfare department and the staff assigned at the center for proper care of children.
