Bigg Boss 5’s Juhi Parmar has opened up about her casting experience early in her career.
Juhi Parmar got immense love for her portrayal of Kumkum in the old TV show Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan. The show, which ran for almost seven years, made the actress a household name and won her the Best Actress Award (Critics). Recently, while talking to a leading media outlet, Juhi Parmar spoke about her casting experience on the casting couch and revealed an incident where she was asked to wear a bikini for a shoot and make compromises for a successful future in the industry.
In an interview with Hauterfly, Juhi shared that she faced the casting couch even before she turned 18. At the beginning of her career, a channel manager asked her to participate in a music video where she would have to wear a bikini on camera. The actress refused the offer.
She further revealed that the head of the channel said to her at the time, “There is this word called compromise, agar tumna ya nahi kya letumko lata hi ki tom tik sakugi yahan p (If you don’t compromise, then do you think you will be able to stand in this industry)?” Following this, Juhi told the head of the channel that she would happily return to her home instead of making compromises, which is against her principles.
Two years later, when Juhi was working on Shaheen and Chodian, she bought a second-hand Maruti 800. One day, while driving, she saw the same channel head standing outside his office. She rolled down the window and said, “Sir main compromised bhi nahi kya, aur bohat acha se survive bhi kar rahi hoon, aur ya gadi apna paisu ki hai (Sir I did not compromise, and I survive happily, and this car is not from my hard earned money) .” Juhi further expressed how empowered she felt after dealing with that person.
Juhi Farmer made her Hindi television debut with the character Smida in Zee TV’s serial Woh in 1998. Later, she participated in various shows including Chodiyan, Shaheen, Yeh Jawan Hai and the first season of Rishti. However, she gained recognition in 2002 with her popular role in Kekem – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan opposite Hussain Kwajarawala. Juhi also participated in the fifth season of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss and secured the top spot. Her last appearance was in Sameer Saxena’s comedy TV series Yeh Meri Family.
